Riyadh: In a major milestone for global intellectual property protection, the member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have adopted the historic Design Law Treaty (DLT) after nearly two decades of negotiations. India played a pivotal role in this development by signing the Final Act of the Riyadh Design Law Treaty, reinforcing its dedication to fostering inclusive growth and enhancing access to intellectual property protections.
Key Features of the Design Law Treaty: The Design Law Treaty aims to harmonise the procedural frameworks for industrial design protection, making it easier for creators to register designs across multiple jurisdictions. By standardising procedural requirements, the treaty is expected to significantly reduce administrative burdens and improve the efficiency of design registration processes worldwide.
Supporting SMEs, Startups, and Independent Designers: The DLT is designed to promote global creativity in industrial design by ensuring that its benefits are accessible to all stakeholders. Special attention is given to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, and independent designers who can now navigate the registration process more easily and with greater efficiency.
